Zone Five Men To Postpone Upcoming Championships

With the current provincial restrictions, the Zone Five Men’s Committee are moving their Championships to Fall 2021...

A notice was posted on their website on April 14, 2021, saying,

“The Zone 5 Men’s Committee is taking a wait-and-see approach with the Zone 5 Men’s Championships. With the present COVID-19 restrictions, no competitions are permitted where competitors play at a Club/Course other than their own. This is set by the provincial body that governs all amateur sport.”

The Committee already decided to cancel a number of other events earlier this year at their AGM: the 2021 Vancouver Island Open, the Willie Park, Harry Young Memorial, Lawrie Kerr Senior, and the Senior Interclubs.

An official update was given on their website on April 20, 2021, that all upcoming Championship events will be moved to September 2021. The reason given is that as per viaSport, tournaments, where players compete at courses and clubs other than their own, may not resume until May 24, 2021. This does not allow enough time for planning to determine whether the respective tournaments can be held on their original dates.

Originally, the upcoming tournaments and dates were the Amateur, Sr. Amateur, and Jr. Amateur set to go on May 29th at Cowichan GC and on May 30th at Duncan Meadows.
