Victoria Golf Club To Host The 120th B.C. Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur & Mid-Master Championship In 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, BRITISH COLUMBIA GOLF

VICTORIA, B.C. (October 28, 2024) - Victoria Golf Club in Victoria has been selected by BC Golf as the host site for the 120th B.C. Women’s Amateur & Mid-Amateur, and Mid-Master Championship from June 23rd to June 26th, 2025.

“We are excited to host the Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship at Victoria, which is one of British Columbia’s strongest and most historic golf courses,” said Jerome Goddard, BC Golf Director of Rules & Competitions. “Our long-awaited return to Victoria will be a memorable week for the membership and for British Columbia’s top female players.”

The Victoria Golf Club, founded in 1893, is the oldest 18-hole golf course in Canada in its original location, and second oldest in North America. Victoria Golf Club was recently ranked #13 in Canada in The Score Golf’s Top 100 ranking.

“We have a proud history of hosting Provincial and National Championships here at Victoria Golf Club and we are very excited to once again be able to showcase our Club and to see the best players from across our Province play our course,” said Head Professional Lindsay Bernakevitch.

Victoria Golf Club plays as a Par 70 will be a strong test for the field. The links-style layout features 5 holes nestled along the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the Pacific Ocean and sea views throughout the golf course.

“Our course is a very strategic course and needs to be charted working backwards from the green to the tee.  Length is not always the key off the tee, and often having the appropriate angle into our undulating greens can make all the difference to getting the ball close or to having the slopes on the greens deflect the ball away from the hole,” said Bernakevitch.

“The player who wins will be the one who avoids big errors, who can control their ball in the inevitably windy conditions and the one who can keep their ball below the hole on our severe greens and out of the deep bunkers surrounding them."

The most recent Provincial Championship held at Victoria Golf Club was the 2005 Women’s Amateur. The Club recently hosted the 2023 PGA of BC Women’s Championship, 2021 US Amateur qualifying, and the 2018 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur.

The Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Mid-Master Championship will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play with a maximum field size of 75 players. Top finishers will qualify for the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

More information on entry requirements and registration dates will be available in early 2025.
