Two Island Pros Get Big “PAT” On The Back

One of the major milestones in a PGA of Canada Professional’s career is passing the Playing Ability Test. Congrats to the latest island pros to make the grade...

Passing the P.A.T. is a requirement for non-exempt applicants to become a PGA of Canada Professional.

Eighteen male participants teed it up at Arbutus Ridge in mid-June 2021 with three shooting the target score needed to pass.

Two of the three who emerged successfully were from facilities on the island: Tyson Girardet from the Victoria Golf Club and Blake Hamilton from Highland Pacific Golf (shown left and right respectively above). The third was Nicolas Miu from the Zone Golf Academy in Richmond.

The target score is predetermined relative to the course rating. The target scores at Arbutus Ridge were 79 for those aged 49 and younger, and 81 for the lone participant aged 50-plus.

In the press release for the event, Doug Titterington, Membership & Events Manager for the PGA of BC summed up this right of passage perfectly, “By demonstrating their high standard of skill over 18 holes, each of the three successful applicants took an important step toward achieving membership as an Apprentice Professional within the PGA of Canada.”
