They Said It... Island Edition

Five interesting Van Isle quotes from social media and around the web...

#1
“The golf club and the district allowed the golf club ‘to be designed in a way that there were risks to individuals to be injured,’ failed to warn of the danger of being hit by a golf ball in that area and failed to ensure proper netting.”

- A quote in an article by the Vancouver Sun citing court documents recently filed for a lawsuit. The case involves a woman who was driving through the Victoria Golf Club on Beach Drive last summer and was hit by a golf ball that came through her open car door window. While not trivializing the incident, it seems somewhat difficult to hold the Club and District responsible from a "design" perspective when the course's construction occurred in 1893 when there were no cars - or roads for that matter - running through the course. The map above is from 1889 and shows Oak Bay as completely undeveloped.

“… golfers will be pleased with the city’s range of different golf courses.”
- A quote from realty company Sotheby’s International about Victoria when listing their 10 best places in Canada to retire. Parksville also made the list.

“…. (the) fairways look like Augusta North. SUMMER RULES IN EFFECT.”

- a post on their website by the Qualicum Golf Club on March 25th. Interestingly, a golfer from Kelowna posted an X/Tweet the same day with some terrific shots showing the great conditions (shown above). See his full post HERE. With the mild winter, golfers can expect to see excellent conditions up and down the island through the shoulder season and the course will be in wonderful condition when the club hosts the Zone 6 Ladies’ Amateur Senior Golf Tournament on May 6th.
