Campbell River G&CC Adds Hotel & Enters Market At Top End
The addition of a hotel to the existing golf course at the Naturally Pacific Resort puts an exclamation point on a development that has been on the mark since day one…
When the Campbell River-based Mailman family brought in architect Graham Cooke in 2016 to craft a completely new design on an existing golf course in the community, it was clear they were committed to doing everything right with an absolute focus on quality.
The result was a par-70, 6100-yard layout that used the parcel of land beautifully, creating a strong and unique mix of holes. From day one, perfect manicure was a mantra and the course continues to have some of the best conditions on Vancouver Island.
Along with the course was a range that at the time was unique in Western Canada.
Using Top Tracer technology, the Velocity Lounge was an immediate sensation. The concept of a social hotspot offering innovative cocktails, a menu of shareable dishes perfect for a casual evening with friends and the chance to engage in an immersive virtual golf experience proved wildly successful.
Sharing a small corner in the building was Elements Apparel which was also proving to be very popular. Eventually, it would be integrated with the golf shop under the name Elements Apparel + Golf. Not just about golf, it offers clothing brands like lululemon and technical outerwear for other Campbell River adventures. The result is one of the most attractive retail therapy environments around.
It’s not surprising there was immediate talk of an adjacent hotel. It was anticipated that construction would begin in the near future but rezoning and COVID slowed those plans.
This would be rectified in 2021 when approval was given for the construction of a 93-room hotel with a restaurant, pool and spa. Ground was broken in early 2022 and the original opening date was to be Fall, 2023 but delays pushed that back until this Spring.
And it was worth the wait.
The decor, finishing and attention to detail throughout the building immediately put this hotel among the top boutique hotels in the province.
Design for the space comes courtesy of CHIL Interior Design, a company renowned for creating exceptional, iconic environments. The interiors here draw inspiration from the natural contours of the surrounding forests, shorelines and topographical lines of the golf course.
Bringing the outside in is an indoor pool that features floor-to-ceiling windows while taking the inside out are fire pits with plush seating areas, a pool deck and a hot tub.
Aside from the expected well-appointed, spacious rooms, the hotel is also home to the Carve Kitchen + Meatery restaurant which offers a modern interpretation of a classic North American steakhouse. Curated menus by long-time Executive Chef Ryan Watson prioritize supporting local farmers and sourcing high-quality meats from sustainable vendors. A 10,000-square foot garden and orchard also provide an abundance of fresh produce and inspiration for seasonal menus.
The other drawing card is the Immersion Spa + Wellness centre. Being located off the hotel’s lobby offers guests the opportunity to unwind in a custom mineral pool and refresh in Italian-made water therapy showers. The spa provides a range of treatments, from pedicures to signature Treatment Rituals that blend ancient techniques and aromatic blends to restore balance to mind, body and energy systems.
“We couldn’t be more excited to unveil Naturally Pacific Resort,” says Amanda Mailman, owner and managing director.
“Paying homage to my family’s deep Campbell River roots, we’re proud to share what we hope will become an iconic Vancouver Island destination resort with our community, and warmly welcome travellers from across the world to enjoy the natural beauty on our doorstep.”
