May 25-26 at the Emerald Valley Golf & Resort in Creswell, Oregon, six players from B.C. represented the province in a combined team and individual stroke play competition that has roots that go back decades.
Teams from B.C.,Washington and Oregon competed and Victoria’s Chelsea Truong was low player for the BC squad over the 36-hole tournament posting scores of 71 and 78 (149, +5) putting her just three shot behind the tournament winner Niuniu Zhao from Washington. Chelsea’s scorecards were highlighted by four birdies and an eagle and her first round 71 was tied for the tournament low.
In the team competition, B.C came second six shots behind winner Washington state. The win was sweet revenge for Washington state as B.C. had dominated the tournament in recent memory winning the previous six tournaments.
Players also had the opportunity to hear some of the top women’s coaches in the state speak including Kailin Downs (head coach at Boise State) and Krissy Carman (assistant coach at University of Oregon and 2022 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Champion).
