2021 Island Tournaments’ Update
Circuit Breaker Restrictions and travel bans are making tournaments tough to hold or even reschedule. Here is a list of the ones (so far) to be cancelled, moved or delayed including the Mackenzie Q-School and Zone 5 Men’s & Women’s Championships...
Mackenzie Tour Q-School Moves South From Crown Isle
The Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada announced on April 12, 2021, that its seventh and final 2021 Qualifying Tournament originally scheduled for Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada, on May 24-27 will move to the United States.
The Home Course in the Tacoma, Washington, suburb of DuPont is the new site, with adjusted dates of June 8-11 for the 72-hole, no-cut tournament.
This is the week following the dates currently set for the DC Bank Open.

Zone Five Women Revised Championship Dates TBD
On their website, the Zone 5 Women’s Committee made the following announcement on April 23, 2021:
Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our AMATEUR/SENIOR/HANDICAP Championship, scheduled for May 31st and June 1st due to Provincial Health orders. While disappointed, we are strongly in favour of following these orders to keep us all safe. We are all looking forward to the summer and [there] may be a possibility that we will be able to run this tournament later in August. Let’s hope so.
Will keep you posted.

Zone Five Men to Postpone Upcoming Championships
With the current provincial restrictions, the Zone Five Men’s Committee is moving their Championships to Fall 2021...
A notice was posted on their website on April 14, 2021, saying:
The Zone 5 Men’s Committee is taking a wait-and-see approach with the Zone 5 Men’s Championships.
With the present COVID-19 restrictions, no competitions are permitted where competitors play at a Club/Course other than their own. This is set by the provincial body that governs all amateur sports.
The Committee already decided to cancel a number of other events earlier this year at their AGM: the 2021 Vancouver Island Open, the Willie Park, Harry Young Memorial, Lawrie Kerr Senior, and the Senior Interclubs.
An official update was given on their website on April 20, 2021, that all upcoming Championship events will be moved to September 2021. The reason given is that as per viaSport, tournaments, where players compete at courses and clubs other than their own, may not resume until May 24, 2021. This does not allow enough time for planning to determine whether the respective tournaments can be held on their original dates.
Originally, the upcoming tournaments and dates were the Amateur, Sr. Amateur, and Jr. Amateur set for May 29th at Cowichan GC and May 30th at Duncan Meadows.

Golf Canada Has Cancelled the 2021 NextGen Pacific Championship
Scheduled for May 5-8 at Bear Mountain Golf Resort, the tournament was a victim of the province’s directive that all non-essential travel should be avoided. This includes travel into and out of B.C. and between regions of the province.
In their release, Golf Canada said,
In consult with viaSport British Columbia as well as provincial health officials and our event partners, Golf Canada will continue to evaluate provincial health and travel restrictions related to COVID-19 to make informed and responsible decisions related to [the] 2021 championships scheduled to be conducted in the province. The safety and well-being of our championship competitors, tournament staff, and volunteers along with event stakeholders and our host community at large is paramount to Golf Canada.
Going forward, the feasibility of conducting each NextGen Championships will be evaluated no later than 3-4 weeks prior to the start of the competition.
