Island’s Callum Davison Medals At Q-School

The Cowichan Valley golfer carded a final-round, bogey-free 67 to secure medalist honours by two shots at the 2021 Forme Tour Q-School held in Dupont, Washington...

Callum Davison had nothing but pars on his first nine holes during the final round. But going bogey-free was one of his goals when the day began.

That changed on the back nine when Davison realized his one-stroke lead would not hold up. He then rolled in birdie putts of 10 feet, five feet, and 15 feet on his next three holes, and added two more — on Nos. 16 and 17 — did indeed go bogey-free and coasted to a two-shot victory over fellow Canadian Jared du Toit.

Callum was the only player in the field to fire four under-par rounds, with three of them sub-70 efforts. “It’s been a while. European Tour Q-School two years ago. It’s been that long,” said Davison on the last time he played a 72-hole tournament.

Two other players from BC earned status during the tournament held on June 7-11. du Toit and Chris Crisologo will be exempt through the reshuffle, which will occur approximately halfway through the season.

The Q-School was actually for two different Tours... the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada and the newly formed and U.S.-based Forme Tour, which gets going on June 23-26 in Athens, Georgia, and ends in early September.

The PGA TOUR Canada also is holding eight tournaments so it is not clear which Tour players will play, given the issues of getting across the border.

As a medalist, Davison is exempt for all eight 2021 Forme Tour tournaments, each of which carries a $115,000 USD prize purse. A total of 24 Canadians have status on the new Tour.

The Mackenzie Tour events are each slated to have $100,000 CDN, but the tournaments will only be open to Canadians.

Aside from border issues and slightly lesser purses, it appears that the good play in Canada can only get players exempt status for the 2022 Mackenzie Tour while the top finishers on the Forme may get Korn Ferry Tour status. (Excerpted from an article on the PGATOUR.com site: “The Forme Tour... provides a path to the Korn Ferry Tour for the season’s top finishers and offers Official World Golf Ranking points.”)

Davison plans to remain south of the border, staying in Montana for a few days practicing and playing golf before he gets in the RV and begins the cross-country drive to Georgia for the inaugural Forme Tour tournament. Davison’s father, Robert, who served as his caddie all week and will continue during the season, will split driving duties with his son.
