Eaglecrest Golf Club Transitions To 9-Hole Course

Despite reaching a lease agreement with the Town of Qualicum Beach, Eaglecrest Golf Club will move ahead with its plans to transition to a 9-hole course effective April 1, 2021...
Semiahmoo Golf Course Ltd. (owners of Eaglecrest Golf Club) recently reached a deal with the Town of Qualicum Beach after ongoing negotiations to continue to operate on town-owned land. The lease term is for one year, expiring on December 31, 2021.
The new lease, however, does not require the course to operate as an 18-hole facility. Starting April 1st, Eaglecrest will begin its transition to a 9-hole course.
Heather Svenson, the town’s Corporate Administrator, addressed the fact that the Town of Qualicum Beach cannot dictate how the course operates. However, Eaglecrest’s owners will still be required to maintain the land under the town’s “unsightly premises” bylaw whether it is used for golf-related activities or not.
Additionally, under these new lease terms, the owners of Eaglecrest Golf Club are required to pay the Town of Qualicum Beach $1,902 for continued use of the 17th fairway area as well as $376 (plus GST) for ongoing use of the 18th tee box area.
The 9-hole layout will follow a similar pattern to the current course with the 14th hole becoming the new first hole.
Rates have also been adjusted to accommodate the 9-hole change. A full-playing member will pay $1,300 for unlimited playing privileges from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. 9-hole membership rates will be $1,150 for the same period, but these members will be restricted to playing no more than 9 holes each day. Membership numbers will be capped, although this figure has not yet been disclosed.
Daily green fees have also been adjusted for the change with peak season rates (April 1st to October 1st) offered at $30 per 9-hole round. However, during peak hours from May to September, 9-hole fees will be $35 per round. Winter rates are $25 per 9-hole round from November to March. Eaglecrest will offer the public the opportunity to “double up” and play 18 holes for $45 during the peak season ($50 during peak hours) and $27 during the winter months.
