2021 DCBank Open Set To Go In Late September
The Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada has announced its 2021 schedule and they will be coming to the island a little later in the year and with a Canadian-only contingent...
The PGA TOUR Canada’s Scott Pritchard has been working very hard to put together a 2021 season and, in a press release, could not hide his satisfaction.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to make this announcement. We always knew we would have PGA TOUR-affiliated golf in Canada in 2021, so it’s nice to finally make it official with the announcement of these eight tournaments,” said Scott Pritchard, Mackenzie Tour Executive Director.
The eight events will run from mid-July to early October with the final event being the 2021 DCBank Open from September 27 to October 3.
On their website, tournament organizers have posted, “2021 will mark the 39th year of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada. After being cancelled due to COVID-19, we are excited to announce that the 2021 event will be held at the historic Uplands Golf Club as top developing golf professionals from around the world will compete at the DCBank Open in what is sure to be an exciting week of golf.”
The tournament fields will feature only Canadians and players will not be playing for spots on the Korn Ferry Tour, rather just exemptions on the 2022 PGA TOUR Canada season. The top player at the conclusion of the season will earn full status on the 2022 PGA TOUR Canada, while players finishing No. 2 through 5 on the Points List will receive conditional 2022 PGA TOUR Canada status, which will gain them entry into the first set of events before the reshuffle. Finishers six through 10 will each earn a sponsor exemption for a 2022 PGA TOUR Canada event.
In an interview with the Times-Colonist, the DCBank Open’s Keith Dagg said, “It’s exciting for us to be the last tournament because the season awards, championship and 2022-season exemptions will be decided at our tournament... And with the provincial timeline calling for the [full] opening of B.C. on September 7, we envision organizing our event like we always do.”
It is also now 100% certain what the prize money will be for the tournament.
In an email, Keith Dagg said, “We know the purse and it’s $100,000 and it’s that for each tournament this year.”
Even with the compacted schedule and the number of events played in consecutive weeks caused by continued pandemic issues, Pritchard sees the 2021 set of tournaments and their place on the schedule as a good thing.
“We believe there is a good pacing to our schedule, and the players will get in a lot of golf this summer in successive weeks. With the limited amount of competitive golf available over the last year, we know the players are anxious to get started and will embrace these events played at high-quality golf courses in the summer and into the fall,” Pritchard added.
