Cordova Bay Improves Both Winter & Spring Playing Conditions
Cordova Bay has started the use of some innovative fairway mats to help keep the tees and fairways in great shape year-round...
Called the Multimat™, it is basically a small mat that gives golfers a good lie and protects the course from too much winter damage.
They are not the first course to do this by any means. Royal Troon utilized mats to protect the course prior to the 2016 British Open Championship.
On their website, Cordova Bay explains the rationale, “ Many of the holes at Cordova Bay have pinch points where divots are extremely prevalent. These areas do not regenerate with the soil temperature in winter. With the extreme increase in play, a solution was necessary to protect these areas.”
They did some testing prior to initiating the new approach and the response was overwhelmingly positive with 99% of testers returning 5-star ratings.
One player (dzlpower) who used it commented on Instagram, “After the initial adjustment and getting my mind wrapped around placing it down each shot, I started to realize the benefits of consistently clean lies... Great idea!
