Royal Colwood Set To Host Top Juniors

Top male and female U-18 golfers from four countries (Canada plus Mexico, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico) are coming to Royal Colwood for the 2022 Toyota Junior World Cup qualifier. Set to go on April 11th–14th, the top teams ( boys’ and girls’ ) will advance to the 2022 Junior World Cup at the Hakusan ­Village Club in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, Japan.

In a recent Club newsletter, the staff said, “We look forward to hosting some of the finest junior golfers in the world next month for the 2022 Toyota Junior World Cup qualifier!. We will be working alongside the crew from Golf Canada to put on a special event for the 22 competitors visiting...”.

The Junior World Cup qualifier follows the Astor Cup (the quadrennial championship for amateur female teams from the Commonwealth and Ireland), which was held at Royal Colwood in 2019. That year’s tournament was won by New Zealand. Call the Golf Shop for more info at 250-478-9591 

New Operator For Cedar Hill

Effective April 1st, Winnipeg-based Lakeland Golf Management has become the new operator of Cedar Hill Golf Course. The District of Saanich hired Lakeland Golf Management to take care of all operational aspects of the facility. In an article by Tiana Solares, the senior manager of Saanich recreation was quoted as saying, “We’re confident with Lakeland’s experience with public courses across Western Canada they will provide a seamless transition and bring added value to their management of this important public asset.”

Crown Isle Car Show 

Hot August Nights seem a long way off on a wet and windy day, but our annual celebration of classic cars will be here before you know it! Friday Night Lights At HP


Starting April 1, the Highland Pacific range will be open until 11:00 p.m. with lighting to track those crisp irons. They will also have various food & drink specials available on Fridays, which always include a burger-bucket-beer combo for $22.00 plus $1 off HP Lager and Whiteclaw cans. Food service will be available until 8:00 p.m. and drink service will be open until 10:00 p.m. Find out more information here.

Glacier Greens Updates Golf Shop


In a Twitter post on March 5, Glacier Greens Golf Club (@GolfGG) showed off the renovations that were completed just in time for their first Men’s League event of the season.

Morningstar To Host Scramble Regionals

Morningstar Golf Club is set to host the RBC PGA Scramble Regional Finals for B.C. on August 13, 2022. The 2022 edition of the RBC PGA Scramble expects to once again see more than 10,000 golfers participate in over 150 local qualifiers throughout the country. With continued efforts to make the RBC PGA Scramble inclusive for all players, there will again be a guaranteed spot for an all-female team at each Regional Final. Find out more information here.

Royal Colwood said goodbye to membership and marketing manager Chris Currie, who is returning to Atlantic Canada, and hello to his replacement André Garneau. New in their golf shop is PGA of Canada member, Jamie Murphy (shown above). The Class “A” Professional with over 20 years of experience comes from Cedar Hill Golf Club

Chip Shots

Salt Spring Island Golf Club has introduced the ability for members to bring well-behaved dogs with them for golf.

Campbell River Golf & Country Club Golf Academy has a great lineup of junior golf lesson programs including an 8-week Junior Program, Junior Summer Camps, and the Fall After School Junior Lessons. Find out more information here.

The 100th Anniversary Huntting Cup is coming to Gorge Vale. The annual competition that pits the island against the best the Lower Mainland has to offer. Dates TBD.

The Final Shot

One of the great tournaments on the island, The West Coast Men’s Amateur, is set to go at Alberni GC the third weekend of June 2022. The Women’s version (slightly different in format) goes the following weekend. See details below and click on the image for details on both events.
