Island Dominates “T of C” Leaderboard But Lower Mainland Club Still Repeats

The 2024 PGA of BC Tournament of Champions saw Vancouver Island teams take four of the top five spots but even a new untested pair from Point Grey G&CC could not be denied…

VICTORIA, BC (Excerpted from www.PGAofBC.org) - The 2024 Tournament of Champions presented by PING Canada & Motocaddy saw 36 teams battle the elements in pursuit of the title, with the two-person team from Point Grey Golf & Country Club emerging victorious – albeit with a new look.

Gone were the duo of Dave Zibrik and Jeff Dagg who had won this “bragging-rights” event three times in a row. Off the bench were Professional Clark MacPherson and club champion Ben Bay who overcame the blustery, cold rain to shoot a 5-under 66 for a one-stroke victory at Victoria’s Highland Pacific Golf.

Pheasant Glen Golf Resort’s Gord Melissa and Kyler Bourgeault, and Gorge Vale Golf Club’s Mark Bicknell and Shelby Dreher tied as runners-up, with both teams shooting 67 in valiant efforts that came up just short. Rounding out the top five were Royal Colwood’s Gordy Scutt & Kevin Carrigan, who shot a 68 tied with Lindsay Bernakevitch & Huf Mcyntire from Victoria GC.

While host GM Jeff Palmer and partner Lyle Beckman may have finished back in the pack, they took home the only skin of the day by birdieing the 10th hole and split $720.
